Before you start troubleshooting, check your phone’s current memory status.
- To check the available memory of your iPhone, simply go to Settings-> General-> iPhone storage menu. If the available memory is less than 1 gigabyte, then that means you have to free up some space.
If your iPhone’s storage is ample but your apps continue to crash, then you can carry out the following procedures to eliminate other factors.
Option 1 - Clear all background apps.
Apps that are left suspended or running in the background during the update are likely to crash and go rogue afterwards. To fix the problem, force close or end all background apps on your Apple iPhone with these steps:
- Go to the Home screen, to get started.
- Then, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause slightly in the middle of the screen.
- Swipe right or left to navigate through app previews.
- Then, swipe up on an app’s preview to close individual apps.
Do the same to clear all the rest of your background apps to prevent them from causing conflicts to the application you’re using.
The above procedure is only applicable to new iPhones or models that do not have a physical Home button. If you’re using an Apple iPhone with a physical Home button, clearing background apps is carried out through these steps:
- Go to your Home screen and press the Home key twice to view recent applications.
- Swipe up on the app preview to close individual apps.
- Do the same to close other background apps.
- Then tap anywhere on the Home screen or press the Home key to go back to the Home screen.
If ending background apps doesn’t solve the problem, move on to the next applicable solutions.
Option 2- Restart your Apple iPhone.
If your iPhone screen is still able to respond, follow these steps to soft reset:
- Press and hold the Top button and either Volume button until the Power Off slider appears.
- Drag the slider to power off your device completely.
- After 30 seconds, press and hold the Top button again until the Apple logo appears
The above steps are only applicable to new iPhones without a Home button. For iPhone variants with physical Home button, performing a soft reset is done this way:
- Press and hold down the Power/Top button for a few seconds until the Power off slider appears.
- Drag the slider to power off your device.
- After a few seconds, press and hold the Power/Top button until the Apple logo appears.
Allow your phone to finish its boot-up sequence and once it gets to the Home screen, retry loading your apps and see if the problem is gone. If the apps are still crashing, continue to the next solution.
Option 3 - Install pending app updates on your Apple iPhone.
If you haven’t configured your apps to auto-update, then you will need to manually install pending app updates on your iPhone. Be sure to have your Apple iPhone connected to the Internet and has ample of battery life and memory space to finish updating. Simply follow these steps whenever you’re ready:
- From the Home screen, tap App Store to open the Apple Store application.
- Next, scroll down to the bottom of the screen then tap Updates. A list of apps with pending updates will then show up on the next screen.
- Tap the Update button next to the name of an app to install individual app updates.
- Tap the Update All button on the upper-right side of the screen to update multiple apps at once. This option is only visible if multiple app updates are available.
After installing app updates, reboot the phone to apply the recent software changes and to refresh the apps.
Option 4 - Reinstall all errant apps.
The apps may continue to crash if they’re totally corrupted from an iOS update. If this is the case, the only way to get the apps to work on your phone properly again is to uninstall and reinstall them. Here’s how:
- Go to the Home screen to get started.
- Tap and hold on an app icon until the icons start wiggling.
- Tap the X on the upper left corner of the app that you want to delete.
- Tap Delete if prompted to confirm app deletion.
- Follow the same steps to delete other errant apps from your phone.
- When you’re done deleting rogue apps, tap anywhere on the Home screen or press the Home key to stop the apps from wiggling.
You can also delete the app from the iPhone storage folder. Just follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, tap Settings.
- Select General.
- Tap iPhone Storage.
- Scroll through the list of apps then select the app you’d want to delete.
- Tap the option to Delete App then confirm.
- Follow the same instructions to delete other apps.
Once you’re done deleting all rogue apps, reboot the phone and then launch the App Store to redownload and reinstall the apps that you have deleted on your Apple iPhone.
- Tap the App Store from the Home screen.
- Search for the name of the app to download.
- Then tap the cloud-like icon or GET button to download the app.
- Tap INSTALL to instigate app installation.
- If prompted, enter the correct Apple ID Password and tap OK to proceed.
Follow the same instructions to reinstall other apps on your device. Wait until the download is can open the app to test its functionality.
